FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010
Host Nation South Africa
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It’s scheduled to take location between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup stands out as the climax of the qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 from the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with one of the most competing nations.
The 2010 World Cup brings together 32 of the best soccer nations for an intense, month-long tournament. This exciting soccer competition only happens every four years, and is hosted this year by South Africa. The vibrant colors, splendor and rich culture of Africa are sure to entertain the billions of viewers as much as the competition itself. This will be the 19th World Cup, and the first to be hosted on the continent of Africa since the competition began in 1930.
For the past three years, 204 soccer teams from almost every nation in the world have been training hard and competing to be one of the top 32 countries to go on to participate in the competition. These national soccer teams have been broken down into eight groups, each with four teams. Every team competing will play at least three games (one against each team in their group). The two best soccer teams from each group then advance to the next 'Round of 16,' and continue on until we're left with just two teams that will go head to head during the 2010 World Cup final game on July 11th.
