European Soccer Betting 101

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and there are few places where that is more evident than in Europe. Every year, millions of people bet on European soccer matches, and many of them don’t know what they’re doing. This guide will teach you the basics of European soccer betting 101 so that you can start placing smarter, more informed bets.

The Different Types of European Soccer Bets

There are three main types of bets that you can place on European soccer matches: moneyline bets, goal line bets, and first half/full time bets. Moneyline bets are the simplest type of bet; you simply pick a team to win or lose. Goal line bets involve picking a team to win or lose by a certain margin. First half/full time bets involve betting on the results of either the first half or the full game.

How to Read European Soccer Betting Odds

European soccer betting odds can be confusing for Americans because they are expressed differently than American sports betting odds. For example, in an American moneyline bet, odds of -150 would mean that you would have to bet $150 to win $100. In a European moneyline bet, those same odds would be expressed as 1.67, which is calculated by dividing 100 (the total number of units) by 150 (the amount you would have to bet). The higher the number, the greater the favorite; in this case, a -150 moneyline favorite in America would be a 1.67 favorite in Europe.

When Do I Place My Bet?

The answer to this question depends on the type of bet that you’re placing. Moneyline bets should be placed as close to game time as possible because the odds can fluctuate significantly as the game gets closer. Goal line and first half/full time bets can be placed either before or during the game because the lines are not as likely to move around as much.

Conclusion:

Now that you know the basics of European soccer betting, you’re ready to start placing smarter, more informed bets on your favorite teams. Remember to shop around for lines at different sportsbooks before placing your bet, and always remember to gamble responsibly.
